CLEARFIELD – At Thursday’s Clearfield Borough Council meeting, council discussed appraisal of the Third Ward fire hall by Provost Appraisals at a cost of $1,200.
Borough Operations Manager Leslie Stott explained that they are currently exploring options for the building right now and the appraisal does not mean the borough will sell the building at this time.
Currently the income from rentals at the building isn’t enough to cover expenses.
The building hasn’t been used as a fire station for 12 years, but the borough does use it for storage.
Council member Jim Kling and Mayor James Schell recalled how little warning was given to the crews at the stations for Second and Fourth Wards and it created bitter feelings, and asked that if any decision is made in regards to selling, that ample warning be given to everyone involved.
Discussion on the fire hall led to a general discussion on finances for the fire company, and Stott pointed out that the fire company members have been very good stewards of finances over the years.
Chief Justin Worley also noted how it has been more difficult to get grant funding to help with purchases, such as equipment.
In other business, Police Chief Vincent McGinnis informed council that the Leigey family of Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub has generously donated the money to purchase the software and first year of service for the PoliceOne Web site at a cost of $1,272.40.
McGinnis also thanked everyone for their hard work in investigating the recent shooting on Second Street, noting the help received from Lawrence Township, Curwensville Borough, the state police and sheriff’s office.
Also, gasoline and fuel bids were opened, and only one vendor submitted bids.
Council accepted the variable rates of $1.869 for gasoline and $1.979 for diesel from JJ Powell.
