CLEARFIELD – “People don’t know how hard those guys worked.”

Ron Woodling, roadmaster for Lawrence Township, gave an update on the hard work of the road crew during the snow storm in December that dumped 20 inches on Lawrence Township.

He said the crew worked for hours on end trying to keep the roads passable, going “above and beyond the call of duty.”

He added that they had four trucks total quit on them, two of which they were able to get running again in the course of the storm. After working long hours, the crew went home for some rest, then were at it again a few hours later.

The supervisors agreed, with Jeremy Ruffner adding that the fire company was also out all night, helping people who were in accidents, etc.

The supervisors held their reorganizational meeting prior to the regular meeting and little has changed since last year.

Randy Powell remains as chairman with Ruffner as vice chair and Brian Collins the third supervisor, and all meetings will continue to be held the first and third Tuesdays of each month.

Beginning Jan. 19, all meetings will be held at the new offices in the former Butler Chevrolet building along the Clearfield-Curwensville Highway.

Barbara Shaffner remains as secretary, Debra Finkbeiner as Code Enforcement and Zoning officer, Naddeo & Lewis Law Offices as solicitor for the township, Heather Bozovich as solicitor of the Zoning Hearing Board and Keller Engineers as engineer.

Ron Woodling will continue to be the roadmaster, Jamie Collins as animal control officer and Heather Olson as the administrative assistant for the police department.

The supervisors tabled appointment of Douglas Clark as police chief with Ruffner stating that there are a few things they want to discuss with him first. The position of emergency management coordinator was also tabled for the same reason.

Howard Hunt and Robert Neeper remain as recycling personnel and Kelly McCracken as tax collector.

Taxes remain as follows: real estate at 18 mills, wage tax at one-half of one percent, local services tax at $52 per year, real estate transfer tax at one half of once percent and the amusement tax at $50 for the first machine plus $25 for each additional machine.

In other business, the supervisors retroactively approved submitting a grant application for Pifer Road for $157,298.50.
