KNOX – The end of a very different and difficult season came to an end Friday night for the Curwensville Area High School football team as the Golden Tide lost for the second time this year to the Panthers of Keystone High School in Knox by a score of 26-13.
Keystone defeated the Tide earlier this year, in Curwensville, 26-16.
The Panthers drew first blood with 3:46 to play in the opening quarter on a six yard Bret Wingard touchdown pass to Keenan Heeter with the point after attempt failing.
Curwensville took the lead in the second quarter when running back Thad Butler raced 80 yards to the end zone followed by a Jake Mullins extra point. The Tide had the edge, 7-6, with 8:52 left before the break.
However, the Panthers answered with a Taylar Altman three yard TD run at the 2:51 point of the second quarter that was followed by a Wingard to Kyle Nellis two point conversion pass which gave Keystone a 14-7 halftime lead.
The Panthers added two more scores to pull away 26-7 in the second half as Gavin Hogue scored from the one yard line in the third quarter and Wingard passed 74 yards to Logan Sell early in the fourth. Both extra point attempts were no good.
The Golden Tide scored the final TD of the contest with 9:38 left when quarterback Danny McGarry hit Ty Terry for a 38 yard score. Curwensville’s two point conversion attempt failed.
Keystone ended its year at 4-2 while the Golden Tide finished at 1-6.
