CLEARFIELD – Ground was broken Tuesday on the $4-million River’s Landing Project in Clearfield Borough, according to Clearly Ahead Development Chief Executive Officer Rob Swales.

The project consists of the construction of a two-story, 11,500-square-foot multi-occupancy facility with up to three suites on the first floor.

There will also be outdoor seating areas and the upper floor will consist of professional office space, incubation/coworking space and special event and training center capabilities.

Construction of an additional sidewalk to connect the Market Street Bridge to Lower Witmer Park will take place along the river’s edge at Market Square.

The Market Square parking lot will be expanded, and an additional lot to serve River’s Landing and Market Square will be created between Lower Witmer Park and the existing Market Square facility.

Swales said that visitors to the riverwalk may experience closure of the riverwalk within the River’s Landing project area for the duration of the construction project.

Prior to mobilization, he said discussions with the contractor and state, county and borough officials determined it was essential to assure a safe environment and to avoid potential injuries.

Swales said that the site must be fully closed off since construction activity will be taking place on both sides of the sidewalk.

He said it was important to secure the entire site from passersby and a temporary hurdle for the progression of the site.

The project bid was awarded this spring to Leonard S. Fiore Inc. of Altoona. Construction was originally slated to commence March 25 but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The total cost of the project is $4 million, Swales said, and will support local union construction jobs and utilize local vendors and material maker products.

Construction will take place over the next year, and is expected to be completed in May of 2021.
