HYDE – In its final regular season game of 2019-20 the Clearfield Bison boys basketball team downed the Curwensville Golden Tide Thursday evening on the Bison home floor 80-17.

The Bison had 14 different players put points on the board in a more than convincing victory over rival outmanned Curwensville.

Clearfield head coach Nate Glunt said after the game, “Our kids came in really ready to play tonight. They played unselfish the entire game and to have 14 guys score is awesome. We did a fantastic job of making plays. I am so proud of these guys.”

The two squads opened the season battling each other in early December with Clearfield also picking up the victory 82-31 in a game that was played at Patton Hall in Curwensville.

The Bison jumped out to a 9-0 lead right off the tip with the Tide getting its first basket from Trevor Lansberry at the 3:48 point of the first quarter.

Then the Bison went on a 27-0 run that stretched from the last few minutes of the first to the last few minutes of the second frame to put the game on ice that enabled Clearfield to take 49-5 bulge into halftime.

Tide head coach Matt Wassil, obviously very disappointed, commented, “It was a combination of things tonight that got us in the huge hole right away, plus the fact that we just aren’t at their level right now. We couldn’t recover, nor could we match their strength and athleticism. And they shot the ball well in the first half, making nine three point baskets.”

Due to the fact that Clearfield had a 40 plus edge to start the second half, the last 16 minutes of action was played under the mercy rule.

Once again the Bison showed its dominance by winning the third and fourth quarters by a combined score of 31-12.

Glunt finished his comments, saying, “We have been really playing like we practice and are looking forward to the upcoming district playoffs.”

Wassil then said, “For our kids to get to the level of Clearfield we need them to put in the time to grow and get better. And that means working at it year round, not just in basketball season.”

The Bison, who on the night made 10 treys, had three players in double figures with Matt Pallo leading all scorers with 14 points while Karson Rumsky with 12 and Cade Walker with 11 helped the offensive cause for Clearfield.

The Golden Tide picked up eight points from Trevor Lansberry.

In the junior varsity game Clearfield picked up a 61-22 win over the Tide. High scorer for Clearfield was Curvey Purkett with 16 and for Curwensville Jayson Rowles led the way with 12.

The Bison (14-8) now await the start of the District 9 playoffs while the Golden Tide (4-17) have one more game for this season, Friday night, on the road, at Sheffield.
