Huntingdon Wins Late Over Lady Bison 37-31 With Huge Free Throw Disparity

HUNTINGDON – The Huntingdon girls basketball squad won for the sixth time in its last seven games Wednesday night, defeating visiting Clearfield by a score of 37-31 in a heartbreaker for the Lady Bison.

And what an effort by the Lady Bison who lost the first time around against the Lady Bearcats, in Clearfield, 67-20.

The Lady Bison were out in front at the half by eight points, 25-17, but it was the offense that died in the second 16 minutes as Clearfield scored just six the remainder of the game.

However, the Lady Bison had the lead at 31-30 with just four minutes to play in the game when Huntingdon went on a 7-0 run to seal the victory.

With the victory Huntingdon is now 8-6 overall and 7-2 in the Mountain League.

Clearfield’s Tesa Miller led all scorers on the evening with 18 points.

Lexi Troup was high scorer for the Lady Bearcats with 12 tallies.

But perhaps the most glaring stat of the night that sticks out was from the free throw line with the Lady Bison going 0 for 2 while Huntingdon perhaps enjoyed some good old fashion home court advantage hitting on 13 of 22 attempts that surely helped the Lady Bearcats pick up the “W”.

In the junior varsity game Clearfield picked up the 39-25 win over the Lady Bearcats. Kirstie VanTassel and Allyson Gaines each had eight points for the Lady Bison.

The Lady Bison, 3-13 overall and 2-6 in the Mountain League, will have a home game for the first time in two weeks and just the second since January 8 when they go up against the Lady Mounties of Philipsburg-Osceola on Friday night.

The Lady Bison defeated Philipsburg-Osceola earlier this season, at Philipsburg, 59-40.

NOTE: There will be no junior varsity game on Friday night. The varsity contest is scheduled to start at 6:30 pm.
