HYDE — The ugly Christmas sweaters were plenty inside the Bison Gym on Friday night as the holiday spirit had taken over. The Lady Bison were coming off their first win of the 2019-2020 season on Wednesday night, ready to defend their home court against the visiting Lady Golden Eagles of Tyrone.
On this night, the team draped in orange started hot, and were shooting deep. Tyrone came out and quickly established the long shot as they rolled to a 61-44 triumph, handing Clearfield its fifth loss on the season.
Clearfield opened the night with a quick inside bucket by Tesa Miller to get the first points on the board, but that was the only time they would hold the advantage. Head coach Joey Castagnolo watched as the visitors penetrated when the opportunity came, but established they were a deep-shooting team early, and often. After one quarter of play, Tyrone held a 20-12 advantage, including a 14-2 run following a Tyrone timeout that put the home squad in a bind.
The second quarter was more of the same, as Clearfield was held to only 3-for-13 shooting in the second stanza. The highlights came from Megan Durandetta who hit two of her four shots from behind the arc in her team-high 12 point outing.
In the third quarter, Clearfield began to reel in the opposition after being down by 13 heading into halftime. The Lady Bison went on a 9-3 run, and kept even in the scoring in the quarter, but found themselves still down heading into the final quarter.
At that point, missed opportunities began costing Clearfield with missed shots, turnovers, and the pace of the game.
The Lady Eagles had four players in double digits in scoring, with Stephanie Ramsey leading all scorers with 18 points, followed by Kayelin Gibbons with 17 from the bench. Emma Getz and Jaida Parker added in 11 and 10 points, respectively, to keep the Lady Bison at bay. Gibbons led the team on the boards with eight rebounds, while both Ramsey and Shannon Shaw accounted for five assists a piece.
Durandetta was the lone double-digit scorer for Clearfield, while Miller and Olivia Bender each had seven rebounds on the night, while Kylie Van Tassel had four assists.
The Lady Bison dropped the opening junior varsity contest as well, 38-20, to start the night.
Clearfield (1-5) has one last game in December, which ultimately is their last game of the decade, when they travel next Friday night to face off with Curwensville.
