Root Pleads Guilty in Meth Case

CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield man accused of possessing methamphetamine after a search warrant was executed on his apartment pleaded guilty during colloquy court Monday.

Joshua Allen Root, 34, was sentenced by President Judge Fredric J. Ammerman to nine months to two years less one day in jail, plus one-year consecutive probation for felony possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine.

These charges stem from a search of his Lawrence Township apartment in November that was done because of information gathered from a series of arrests and activity reported by security personnel at the apartment complex.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Root was discovered on a second-floor of the apartment when officers arrived to execute the warrant.

In his bedroom, they found baggies containing a white crystal substance, various drug paraphernalia, a blue notebook with names and dollar amounts written next to them and a realistic looking air pistol.

When another individual in the apartment was questioned, she told police Root had given her part of a Subutex tablet.

In his interview with police, Root admitted he had given Subutex to the woman and that a syringe also contained methamphetamine for her to inject.

The other resident of the apartment Cherie Elise Del-Re, 29, was not at home during the search.

Officers found various drug paraphernalia, a buprenorphine tablet, marijuana and air pistols in her room.

Additionally, officers found a bag containing pills of suspected buprenorphine in a cabinet in the kitchen, a yellow notepad with pricing information for “chicken” ranging between $100 and $200 and various drug paraphernalia.

In March Del-Re pleaded guilty to felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance-marijuana when she received a county sentence of 90 days to two years less on day and one-year consecutive probation from Judge Paul Cherry.
