CLEARFIELD – A “Pray for America” observance was held Thursday at the Clearfield County Courthouse Plaza.
Held as part of the National Day of Prayer, the theme was “Love One Another,” as a reminder of Jesus’ words to “Love one another as I have loved you” (John 13:34).
The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, and it invites people of all faiths to pray for their nation.
In 1952, a joint resolution by the U.S. Congress, signed by President Harry S. Truman, declared an annual National Day of Prayer.
In 1988, the law was amended and signed by President Ronald Reagan, permanently setting the day as the first Thursday of every May.
Each year, the president signs a proclamation, encouraging all Americans to pray on this day.
