JOHNSONBURG — Curwensville Area High School senior Christian Bakaysa was named to the 2018-19 Allegheny Mountain Boys Basketball League All-Star Team in voting by the head coaches released by Johnsonburg athletic director Emily Mitchell.
The 6-3 forward scored 374 points for a 17.0 average that ranked 14th in District 9.
Against AML opponents, Bakaysa totaled 165 points for a 16.5 average.
He also pulled down 8.2 rebounds per game for the Golden Tide, which finished 5-17.
Justin Miknis of DuBois Central Catholic was selected as the Most Valuable Player.
The 6-0 senior scored 460 points for a 21.3 average that was second in D-9 behind Coudersport’s Owen Chambers, who amassed 830 points (30.8 ppg) to become the district’s all-time scoring leader with 2,269.
Miknis is a two-time AML All-Star, as are 5-8 senior Daunte Allegretto (9.2 ppg) of Ridgway, 6-0 junior Austin Green (18.4 ppg) of Johnsonburg and 6-0 junior Chad Greville (13.4 ppg) of Kane.
Two other members of Ridgway’s AML and District 9 Class AA championship team that made a run to the PIAA quarterfinals were among the 11 players honored, 6-2 senior Jake Reynolds (11.3 ppg) and 6-5 senior Will Thompson (11.0 ppg).
Rounding out the All-AML Team are 6-0 senior Alex Breindel (12.8 ppg) and 6-0 junior Regis Wortman (12.1 ppg) of Elk County Catholic and 5-11 senior Zane Puhala (12.2 ppg) and 6-1 senior Isaac Schloder (9.9 ppg) of Johnsonburg.
