Campus Corner: Maines Registers Career-High 15 Tackles


GREENVILLE — Senior outside linebacker Dusty Maines (Clearfield) recorded a career-high 15 tackles for Thiel Saturday night, but Geneva spoiled the Tomcats’ home opener with a 27-14 Presidents’ Athletic Conference win in front of 1,126 fans in Alumni Stadium.

Ten of his stops were solo, raising his team-high total to 27. He also leads the Tomcats (0-3, 0-2 PAC) in total tackles with 36.

Maines had one sack and one force fumble.

LEICESTER, Mass. — Senior kicker/punter Spencer Herrington (Clearfield) contributed nine points and averaged 41.9 yards for seven punts, including a career-long 55-yarder, as Worcester Polytechnic Institute rolled past host Becker 45-0 at Alumni Field Saturday in its non-conference finale.

Herrington booted a 19-yard field goal in addition to converting all six PATs.

His season totals are 21 points on 15 PATs and two field goals and a 37.5 average for 14 punts, five of them pinning opponents inside their 20.

The Engineers will head into their New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference schedule with a 2-1 record.

WILLIAMSPORT — Senior starting center Brad Stubbs (Curwensville) and junior backup offensive lineman Nate Lash (Clearfield) helped Lycoming rush for 166 yards in a 23-10 victory over visiting Lebanon Valley at David Person Field Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors, now 2-1, struck for 17 points in the first quarter of the Middle Atlantic Conference opener witnessed by 1,865 fans.

ERIE — Freshman goalkeeper Madi Jones (Clearfield) saved four of seven shots on goal in two home losses last week that dropped Penn State Behrend to 2-4 in non-conference action.

The Lions were shut out 2-0 by Mount Union (Ohio) Wednesday and 1-0 in overtime by Washington & Jefferson when the Presidents cashed their only shot on goal in the 97th minute.

Jones fended off four shots by Mount Union.

She has faced 21 shots in her six starts and has 14 saves and a 1.16 goals against average.

CRESSON — Freshman Alec Graham (Clearfield) posted an 89 for Penn State DuBois in the Mount Aloysius Invitational at the Summit Country Club Sunday.

He tied for 37th place among the 48 golfers from nine teams.

The Lions had only three players and did not qualify for team scoring.
