CLEARFIELD – Recently three Clearfield County seniors were awarded the Jeffrey Buck Memorial Scholarship.

Seniors from the school districts in Clearfield County were given the opportunity to apply for these scholarships.

Eligible applicants were required to be attending post-secondary education and be actively volunteering with a fire or EMS station in Clearfield County.

Applicants were asked to answer two questions: “Have you ever made a difference in your community” and “What does it mean to be a volunteer.” Each of the three seniors were awarded a $500 scholarship.

Porter Kling is a graduate of the Clearfield Area Junior-Senior High School and a volunteer with the Lawrence Township Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1.

Kling will be attending Lock Haven University where he plans to major in criminal justice. He’s the first person to receive the scholarship from the Lawrence Township Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1, which was Buck’s company.

Lindsey Delattre is a graduate of the Moshannon Valley High School and a volunteer with the Madera Volunteer Fire Company. She will be attending Lock Haven University where she plans to major in nursing.

Delattre has been a volunteer in Madera since she was 14 years old, following in her father’s footsteps. Her father currently serves as fire chief.

Karissa Noel is a graduate of the Glendale High School and a volunteer with the Reade Volunteer Fire Company. She will be attending Mount Aloysius College where she plans to major in nursing.

Noel enjoys training with the fire company and recruiting new members. She obtained her Mod 1, 2 and 3 certifications, and then retook the classes to encourage new members to do the same.

The scholarships are awarded annually in memory of Buck, who was killed in the line of duty while on scene of a structure fire in Clearfield in March of 2015.
