Clearfield Falls to DuBois 6-1 in Legion Baseball

HYDE — The Clearfield American Legion baseball team managed only five hits off two DuBois pitchers and went down to a 6-1 defeat at the Bison Sports Complex Monday evening in just its second Jefferson County League game of the season.

Eli Glass and Hayden Williams matched singles and doubles for the John Lewis Shade Post 6 Chiefs, who are 1-1 in the JCL and 4-3 overall.

Glass scored their run on a balk by Eric Schneider after pounding a double to deep center and advancing to third on a groundout.

Schneider gave up three hits in two innings of relief work.

Winning hurler Dillon McCluskey blanked the Chiefs on two singles through five innings with four strikeouts.

Schneider belted a home run to left field in the third inning off starter and loser Cade Walker to give DuBois (2-1) a 2-0 lead.

One of Walker’s three walks turned into a first-inning run because of two Clearfield misplays. He struck out five and surrendered four hits in a four-inning stint.

Another pair of errors made three of the four runs off reliever Hunter Dixon in the fifth inning unearned, too.

Jordan Frano and Alex Pasternak delivered RBI singles around a run-scoring groundout by Anthony Kness after Mitch Ferra once again drew a walk and circled the sacks on errors.

Pasternak had two hits while Garrett Prosper doubled twice for the visitors.

Clearfield will go to Punxsutawney Thursday for a 6 p.m. doubleheader against the Punxsutawney/Brookville combo.

A non-league game with Mifflin County that had been booked for Wednesday has been called off and probably won’t be reschedule, according to Chiefs manager Sid Lansberry.
