Lady Tide Lose To Once Beaten DuBois Central Catholic 11-5

DUBOIS – The DuBois Central Catholic (DCC) girls softball team swept the two game season series with Curwensville on Thursday afternoon, winning 11-5 in DuBois.

Due to poor field conditions on the Lady Tide field in Curwensville, the game was switched to DuBois after a Wednesday rain-related postponement.

The Lady Cardinals (16-1) defeated the Lady Tide in early May 13-2, in DuBois.

DCC jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three and a half innings before the Lady Tide got on the board with three runs in the bottom half of the third to cut the Lady Cardinal edge to just 4-3.

The big inning that put Curwensville away was the top of the fifth inning when the Lady Cardinals scored four times to bolt in front 9-3.

The Lady Tide scored its final pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Shay Gulvas had a big day for DCC with a solo home run in the first inning and then added a double later on.

Mia Meholick, Alyssa Bittner, Carly Semanick and Jordan Kosko all had two hits for DuBois Central Catholic.

One of Bittner’s hit was a double.

Curwensville ended up with six singles on the afternoon with catcher Bailey Bloom picking up two RBIs.

The Lady Tide end its regular season with an 11-9 mark and are seeded fourth in the upcoming District 9 AA tournament that begins on Monday.

Curwensville will host the number five seed Moniteau at 4 pm in a quarterfinal game with the winner moving on to play the number one seed, Cranberry, on Wednesday, at Cranberry.

Cranberry, two seed Redbank Valley and the three seed, Johnsonburg, all received byes to move into the semifinals.
