Obituary Notice: Arthur W. Merat

Arthur W. Merat, 68, of Falls Church, Va., died Tuesday, March 27, 2018 in Arlington, Va.

Mr. Merat was born July 20, 1949 in Philipsburg, the son of Verden P. and Ruth (Jannot) Merat.

He was a graduate of the St. Francis High School, Clearfield. Mr. Merat worked for the U.S. Naval Research Lab, Washington D.C.

He was Catholic by faith. Mr. Merat was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran having served during the Vietnam era.

In 2013 he was awarded the DON Meritorious Civilian Service Award for his outstanding contributions in developing and implementing the plans to have the Midway Research Center provide signal generation services for various satellite program offices around the world. It was also to provide centralized management and control of their geographically dispersed sites by networking all sites remotely via the Internet.

He was a life member of the Marine Corps League and the Frenchville Veterans of Foreign Wars Leigey-Renaud Post No. 8386.

He was also a member of the American Legion in Arlington, Va., the Philipsburg Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks No. 1173 and the Mosquito Creek Sportsmen’s Club.

He is survived by five siblings, John Merat and his wife, Lorrie of Bald Hill, Mark Merat and his wife, Janice and Teresa Gill and her husband, Michael, all of Frenchville, Ann Rubly and her husband, Robert of Clearfield and Billi Jo Mills and her husband, Matt of Osceola Mills; a number of nieces, nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.

Mr. Merat was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mary Kay and Kathleen Merat.

A Memorial Mass will be announced at a later date. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Church Cemetery, Frenchville.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Frenchville VFW Leigey Renaud Post No. 8386, P.O. Box 188, Frenchville, PA 16836, the Arlington American Legion, 919 N. Kansas St., Arlington, VA 22201 or St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Ln., P.O. Box 159, Frenchville, PA 16836.
