Campus Corner: Swanson, Steiner Lower PRs at PSACs


YORK — Clarion freshmen Tate Swanson (Clearfield) and Hayden Steiner (Clearfield) set multiple personal records during the preliminaries at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships in the Graham Aquatic Center last week.

Swanson did earn some points for the Golden Eagles by swimming the third leg, in 21.93 seconds, for the 200-yard freestyle relay team that placed sixth in 1:26.71.

His PRs were 22.38 for 30th place in the 50 free, 49.26 for 30th in the 100 free and 1:49.62 for 33rd in the 200 free.

Steiner had four personal-bests, 22.68 for 32nd place in the 50 free, 49.78 for 33rd in the 100 free, 1:48.70 for 31st in the 200 free and 5:02.53 for 22nd in the 500 free.

Clarion finished fourth in the seven-team meet with 413 points.

ATHENS, Ohio — Sophomore Claire Mikesell (Clearfield) posted a season-best 24.49 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle preliminaries at the Mid-American Conference Championships hosted by Ohio University last week.

She finished 44th in that event, 20th in the 100 breaststroke prelims with a 1:05.31 clocking and 39th in the 100 free prelims in 53.95.

Her best times were 53.22 in the 100 free and 1:04.40 in the 100 breaststroke.

WILLIAMSPORT — Sophomore 197-pounder Travis Ogden (Clearfield) finished 3-4 in an injury-plagued season for Lycoming, sidelined in November and again in December before having to sit out the last month.

He was 2-3 in dual meets and will take records of 17-7 for duals and 30-15 overall into his junior campaign.

HUNTINGDON — Freshman catcher Zane Morgan (Clearfield) singled and scored and also had a run-scoring groundout in the nightcap of Juniata’s season-opening doubleheader against Eastern Mennonite at Bridgewater, Va., last Tuesday.

The Eagles dropped both games, 4-2 and 14-8.

On Sunday, Morgan got his first start behind the plate and was hitless in two at-bats in the second game of a road twin bill against Bridgewater (Va.), which swept the Eagles 9-4 and 3-0.
