Campus Corner: Mikesell Has Big Day in OU Victory

WOMEN’S SWIMMING

ADA, Ohio — Sophomore Claire Mikesell (Clearfield) helped make Senior Day special for the Ohio University upperclassmen in the OU Aquatic Center Saturday by swimming in two relay victories and placing second in two individual events as the Bobcats defeated Mid-American Conference rival Bowling Green 169.5-130.5.

Her splits were 29.53 seconds for the breaststroke leg of the Bobcat 200-yard medley foursome’s 1:44.88 clocking and 52.97 for the leadoff leg that sent the 400 free quartet to a 3:31.21 time.

She recorded a personal-best 53.22 in the 100 free and touched the wall in 1:05.40 in the 100 breast.

The Bobcats were dealt a tough 151.5-147.5 loss by Marshall the previous night.

Mikesell placed third in the 100 breast in 1:05.96, just one-hundredth of a second behind swimmers from each team who tied for first, and was fifth in the 100 free in 55.10.

She swam the second leg for the 200 medley foursome that was second in 1:46.21 and the leadoff leg for the 400 ‘B’ free team that was fourth in 3:38.16

MEN’S SWIMMING

GREENSBURG — Junior Michael Spencer (Clearfield) anchored the 200-yard medley relay team’s win that triggered Westminster’s 185-109 Presidents’ Athletic Conference victory over host Saint Vincent Saturday.

His 21.57-second split gave the Titans a come-from-behind win in 1:39.92.

Spencer also finished second in the 50 freestyle in 22.29 seconds and turned in a 22.05 third leg for the 200 free relay foursome that placed second in 1:29.01.

Westminster is 3-0 in the PAC and 6-1 overall.

EDINBORO — Freshman Tate Swanson (Clearfield) lowered his personal record in the 100-yard freestyle to 50.36 seconds for a third-place finish in Clarion’s 117-86 win over Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference rival Edinboro Friday.

He placed fourth in the 50 free in 23.11 and posted a 50.49 leadoff leg for the Golden Eagle 400 free relay quartet that wound up fourth in 3:27.47.

Freshman Hayden Steiner (Clearfield) was sixth in the 200 free in 1:58.03, turned in a 22.85 anchor for the 200 medley ‘B’ foursome that was third in 1:43.96 and swam a 52.53 third split for the 400 free relay team.

Clarion completed the dual meet portion of its schedule at 3-3.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

DUBOIS — Sophomore center Trey Rauckhorst (Curwensville) came off the bench to top Penn State DuBois in points with 11 and rebounds with seven last Tuesday when the Lions fell victim to Villa Maria (N.Y.) by a 104-58 score.

Rauckhorst also had two blocks while sophomore Caleb Strouse (Clearfield) added his first five points of the season plus two rebounds against the No. 2 Division 2 team in the United State Collegiate Athletic Association.

Rauckhorst had four points,four rebounds, one assist and one block in the Lions’ 81-69 win over Penn State Hazleton Friday and one assist in their 90-87 squeaker over Penn State Schuylkill Saturday.

The weekend sweep moved the Lions into fifth place in the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference at 6-4. They are 9-10 overall.

Rauckhorst has registered 98 points, 86 rebounds, 15 blocks, six assists and two steals.

Strouse, in six appearances, has five points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal.
