GROVE CITY — No. 2 seeds Blake Passarelli and Steven McClure of Curwensville advanced to the quarterfinals with falls at the annual Fred Bell Memorial Wrestling Tournament in Grove City High School Friday afternoon.

Passarelli pinned Dakota Bishop of Meadville and Julian Barr of Grove City at 120 pounds, while McClure received a first-round bye and then decked Kaleb Dunlap of Titusville.

Golden Tide teammates Jake McCracken (145) and Cole Bressler (152) also survived, winning two of three matches to move into the third round of consolations.

McCracken pinned Zach Zinger of Warren, lost 9-3 to Kalob Brown of Cochranton and won by injury default over Michael Kuntz of Northwestern.

Bressler pinned Brandon Flis of Cambridge Springs and major decisioned Tim Vanderhoos of North East 20-9 after being pinned by No. 1 seed Alec English of Kane in the opening round.

The Golden Tide foursome will be back in action during Saturday morning’s session that is slated to get under way at 8:30. The finals are tentatively set for 6 p.m.

Wrestlers from 35 teams competed in 391 bouts on three mats Friday.

Other Curwensville results:

Mason Gasper (126) was shut out 16-0 by John Wheeler of Northwestern and edged 6-4 by Dakota Cochran of Conneaut.

Noah Holt (132) pinned River Perry of Cranberry in the first round and then was pinned by Wes Davenport of Conneaut, which dropped him to the second round of consolations where he lost.

Adam Straw (138) was pinned by Cutter Boggess of Clarion and defeated Justus Baker of Franklin in the first round of consolations before being eliminated by Deven Smoker of Port Allegany.

Steven McBride (160) was pinned by Jed Goodlin of Jamestown and Josh Rees of Port Allegany.

Gage Roos (182) was pinned by Trevor Tursky of Conneaut and Garrett Long of Conneaut.
