More than 80 people were killed in Vietnam in flooding caused by Tropical Cyclone Damrey, authorities said, just days before US President Donald Trump is set to visit the country.
Some 26 people are also missing, the Vietnam Disaster Management Authority said.
The agency said nearly 120,000 homes have been ruined and early 10,000 hectares of rice and more than 15,000 hectares of vegetables were flooded.
Many of the damaged homes were in the provinces of Khan Hoa, Ninh Thuan and Phu Yen, the European Union’s humanitarian aid agency reported earlier this week, citing local media.
President Trump is scheduled to visit the coastal city of Da Nang for a summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum as part of a two-week trip across the Asia-Pacific region. He’ll also travel to the capital, Hanoi, for an official state visit with Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang.
Trump arrived in Beijing Wednesday and will head to Vietnam later this week.
