George H. Stahlnecker Jr., 88, of DuBois died peacefully Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born Feb. 21, 1929 in Sandy Township, he was the son of the late George H. Stahlnecker, Sr. and Lillian “Madge” (Davis) Stahlnecker.
After graduating from Sandy High School in 1947, he married the girl of his dreams, Ellen (Dungey) Stalhnecker, on June 3, 1951. They were married for 66 years.
He was a veteran of the Korean War who served in the U.S. Army.
After returning from the service, he joined his father in the family business, Stahlnecker’s Greenhouse. He then, along with his son, Les, and friend, Tom Yakulis, opened 101 Auto Repair. He retired from United Electric.
Strong, intelligent and resourceful, he always appreciated the simple things around him and was dedicated to his family. He could build almost anything and did just that through the years.
The ones closest to him will remember those things and smile. He enjoyed his family, and spent many happy years visiting his camp in Potter County. He enjoyed fishing and building and flying model airplanes.
In addition to his wife, Ellen, he is mourned by his children, daughters, Sue and her husband, Harry Rugh and Karen and her husband, Robert Gerew and his dearly loved, son Les Stahlnecker.
Loving and patient, he was always proud of his family and especially of his beloved granddaughter, Emily Gerew, who was the light of his life and who could always make him smile.
He is also survived by much-loved sisters, Betty Cessna and Helen Molnar.
He is preceded in death by three sisters, Janey, Blanch and Madge and one brother, John.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of Penn Highlands Hospice. Their dedication and effort to provide quality care over the last months were a heartwarming blessing to the entire family. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of the time we spent with him.
There will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held to honor his life well-lived at a future date. Burial will be at Morningside Cemetery.
