Charles O. McCartney, 88, of Gearhartville, Philipsburg RD, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Sept. 15, 2017 at his residence.
Born Feb. 2, 1929 in Glasgow, he was the son of the late Terry and Annie (Gates) McCartney.
He was a graduate of the Philipsburg High School and a heavy equipment operator. He was also a past Decatur Township supervisor.
He was a member of the New Life Center, Philipsburg, the National Wild Turkey Federation and the Glendale Sportsmen’s Association.
He was a lifetime member of the Gearhartville Sportsmen’s Club. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean War.
On Nov. 9, 1953 in Gearhartville, he married Emma Jean Perks, who survives.
He is also survived by a daughter, Alice Ferguson and her husband, Barry; three sons, Charles “Terry” McCartney and his wife, Kimberly, David McCartney and Timothy McCartney and his wife, Alice Jane; 19 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
He was the last of his generation. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Penny A. Mondock; a brother, Harold T. McCartney; and a sister, Verna Ball.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the New Life Center, Philipsburg, with the Rev. John T. Dill officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at the Philipsburg Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, Philipsburg, and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Wednesday at the New Life Center.
