State Police Investigating Inmate Death in Jefferson Co.

PINE CREEK TOWNSHIP – The Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Troop C, is investigating the death of a Jefferson County Jail inmate.

The inmate was identified by state police as 24-year-old David E. Aikens. Aikens had been in the work release program.

State police say Aikens was returning to the jail on July 21 at approximately 5 p.m., when he experienced a “medical emergency.”

Aikens was subsequently transported to the Allegheny General Hospital, where he died, according to state police.

No further information was provided in the state police report.
