Eleanor P. Kennard, 82, of Clearfield and formerly of Pittsburgh and Philipsburg, died Friday, June 30, 2017 at Mountain Laurel Health and Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.
Born May 23, 1935 in Hawk Run, she was a daughter of Michael and Pauline (Pintus) Hurtack, both of whom preceded her in death.
She was a 1953 graduate of the former Philipsburg High School. She then graduated from the former Philipsburg State General Hospital School of Nursing and subsequently earned her registered nurse license.
She continued her education at Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, and the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, where she received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in nursing, respectively.
Following her graduation from University of Pennsylvania, she accepted a position at St. Francis College, Loretto, where she remained for a few years.
She then accepted a position at LaRoche College, Pittsburgh, where she retired from their nursing program after 27 years of service.
She was a member of the Cornerstone Community Fellowship Church of God, Wallaceton. She was an avid reader and enjoyed working word puzzles in her spare time.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Michael E. Hurtack Sr., in addition to her parents.
She is survived by two daughters, Julia Doughty and her husband, Gene of Ellwood City and Barbara Kennard of New Castle; two brothers, Nicholas Hurtack and his wife, Margaret “Peggy” and Eugene Hurtack, all of Philipsburg; and her long-time companion, Ronald Powell of Clearfield.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg, with Pastor Matt Scott officiating.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
