Month-long detour will begin July 12

BIGLER TOWNSHIP – Work to replace a Route 53 bridge in Bigler Township, Clearfield County, has been delayed a week, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT.

Replacing the bridge will allow PennDOT to remove it from Clearfield County’s structurally deficient list.

The bridge spans Maplepole Run, near the village of Madera. The existing 19-foot bridge dates from 1928 and carries an average of more than 1,600 vehicles each day.

Work was expected to get under way on July 5 but will now get under way on July 12. With the work start delayed, the bridge closure and detour are also delayed one week.

On July 12, an official detour will be in effect, with drivers directed to use Route 53, Route 453 and Route 729. The detour will now remain in place through Aug. 6.

Overall project work will include removal of the old bridge, placement of a new, pre-cast concrete box culvert, paving, guide rail updates and miscellaneous items.

All work is weather and schedule dependent. LTT Trucking LLC of Renovo, Pa., is the contractor on this $493,000 project. Drivers are reminded to follow detour signing, obey posted speed limits, and always buckle up.

For more information on projects occurring or being bid this year, those made possible by or accelerated by the state transportation funding plan (Act 89), or those on the department’s Four and Twelve Year Plans, visit www.projects.penndot.gov.
