Leona Murawski, 98, of Houtzdale died peacefully at her residence Saturday, June 17, 2017.
Born April 15, 1919, she was a daughter of Victor and Josephine (Finney) Duey.
Mrs. Murawski was a loving wife to Bernard Murawski to whom she was wed Feb. 19, 1938 in St. Barbara’s Roman Catholic Church in Houtzdale. She lost her husband too early in life on May 21, 1974.
She was a homemaker. She raised three children and was a wonderful mother. She was Catholic by faith.
In the beginning of the St. Barbara’s National Catholic Church, Mrs. Murawski and her husband were pioneers in building the church and active members and financial supporters. She spent many tireless hours, along with other ladies of the church, making pierogies.
She is survived by her loving children, Anthony Murawski of Berlin, Richard Murawski and his wife, Elaine of Houtzdale and her daughter and caring, guardian angel, Barbara Johnson of Houtzdale.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, all of whom she loved very much, Richard B. Murawski and his wife, Kate of Curwensville, Sherri Gehringer and her husband, Matthew of Howard and Jennifer Johnson of Centre Hall.
She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored with all her heart, Alex, Sophia and Lucas Murawski and Dylan and Cody Gehringer and a sister-in-law, Josephine Murawski.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Joseph Duey; and a son-in-law, Casey Johnson, who was like a son to her.
Family and friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale, and again from 9 a.m. Wednesday until the procession leaves for the church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Barbara’s National Catholic Church, Houtzdale, with Father Andy Andres as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Barbara’s Cemetery, Houtzdale.
