Lady Bison Break Into Win Column, Dump Tyrone 9-4

HYDE – Monday was a very special day for the Clearfield Lady Bison softball squad as it picked up win number one on the 2017 season.

After lots of hard work and patience, Clearfield broke through with a 9-4 victory over the Tyrone Lady Golden Eagles at the Bison Sports Complex.

In early April the Lady Golden Eagles beat Clearfield, at Tyrone, 4-2.

The Lady Bison jumped out to a 6-0 margin after four innings were played before the Lady Golden Eagles added three tallies in the top of the fifth to climb back into the contest.

Clearfield had four hits in the first inning highlighted by back to back doubles from pitcher Abby Fedder and first baseman Makayla Ross.

Helping out with singles were Brooke Cline and Kristin Norman.

Cline and Fedder would cross home plate in the inning to get the Lady Bison offense rolling on a very cold afternoon.

In the third stanza Ross would walk with one out and then score on another Clearfield double, this time by left fielder Aspen Bishop giving the Lady Bison a 3-0 lead.

Three more hits in the bottom of the fourth helped Clearfield tack on three more runs as Cline doubled, the fourth of the day for the Lady Bison, with Erica Hanes and Fedder adding singles.

A couple of base on balls also helped Clearfield in the fourth to now stretch the lead to 6-0.

Although Tyrone cut the Clearfield edge in half with the three runs in the top of the fifth, this was a day the Lady Bison would not be denied.

The Lady Bison jumped on the Lady Golden Eagles for another three runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Cline and Fedder each picked up another single as two walks and a Tyrone error helped Clearfield score the three runs that essentially put the game way.

The Lady Golden Eagles picked up the game’s last run in the top of the sixth, bringing no harm nor danger to the Lady Bison who simply smelled victory.

Cline and Fedder each had three hits for Clearfield.

The Lady Bison (1-13) return to action on Tuesday with another home game at 4:30 pm. Clearfield will host Penns Valley, a team that defeated the Lady Bison, 11-4 in mid-April.
