Barbara B. Peters, 90, a retired Clearfield school teacher of Sonora, Calif., and formerly of Clearfield, died May 4, 2017.
Born June 1, 1926 in Clearfield, she was the daughter of the late Amy “Dolly” Peters.
Ms. Peters was a member of the West Side United Methodist Church and Choir for many years. She was a graduate of the Clearfield High School in 1944.
She graduated from the Lock Haven College in 1948. She taught in Windber, Pa., as well as at East High School, Columbus, Ohio, until returning to Clearfield in 1964.
She has spent the past 18 years enjoying life and her dear friends in California.
As a high school physical education and heath teacher in Clearfield until retirement in 1986, Ms. Peters was instrumental in improving opportunities for girls in many sports, some for the first time in the Clearfield School District.
Ms. Peters was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Amy Peters; grandparents, Charles F. Peters and Pearl McQuillen (Peters; as well as her uncles, Charles “Budd” Peters and Robert L. Peters and aunt and uncle, Fred and Dorothea Cochrane.
There will be no visitation and burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery at a later date.
A service of remembrance will be held at 1:30 p.m. May 13 at the West Side United Church with Dr. Rev. Joleen A. Willis officiating.
Memorial contributions can be made at the Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, the West Side United Church or Penn Highlands Hospital, Clearfield.
