Bison Boys Remain Perfect, Down Bellefonte 56-33

BELLEFONTE – A 27-0 run from the first quarter into the second quarter propelled the Clearfield Bison boys basketball team to a 56-33 Mountain League win in Bellefonte on Monday night.

The win keeps the Bison perfect on the year at 4-0 overall and 3-0 in Mountain League play.

Bellefonte had an early 4-2 lead with 5:33 to go in the first eight minutes when the game went sour for the Red Raiders.

At the 5:02 mark of the first period, Clearfield’s Will Myers drained a three-pointer that jump started the Bison offense and, in this case, the defense.

With Tommy Hazel scoring 10 of his game high 20 points that enabled Clearfield to come up with the 27-0 run that ended with a Bellefonte basket with 2:57 to go in the first half the Bison had a very comfortable edge at 29-6.

Clearfield went on to take a 35-9 lead into the intermission against an overmatched, but very young Red Raider squad.

Nate Glunt, Clearfield head coach, spoke afterwards about Bellefonte and his Bison team saying, “Bellefonte is a young team that is coached very well. I thought they came ready to play tonight, but our defense stepped up and played really well in this game. It was good hard defense on our part and if we can play like that we can have success.”

The Bison stretched its margin even further, 48-16, by outscoring Bellefonte 13-7 in the third quarter.

Both teams played the second teams during the majority of the fourth quarter.

Cade Fortney had seven points for the Red Raiders.

Clearfield went 5 of 7 from the charity line while Bellefonte hit on 11 of 16.

The Red Raiders are now 0-4 on the year under first year head coach Kris Glunt, no relation to the Bison head coach. Kris Glunt had been the boys head coach at Moshannon Valley before taking over at Bellefonte this season.

Bellefonte easily won the junior varsity game, 55-24. Jake Sorbera and Taye Lynch each had six for Clearfield.

The Bison play one more time before the Christmas break, hosting Mountain League foe Tyrone on Thursday. Junior varsity tips off at 6 pm with the varsity game to immediately follow.

Also, Clearfield, will once again be playing at Purchase Line High School over the Christmas holiday break.

The Bison will play Northern Cambria on Thursday, December 29, at 6 pm, and then on Friday evening, at approximately 7:30 pm, will battle Purchase Line.
