John K. Blake, 88, of Philipsburg and formerly of Osceola Mills, died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born Aug. 6, 1928 in Philipsburg, he was the son of the late Thomas N. and Jennie (Simcox) Blake Sr.
He was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church, Philipsburg, and a former member of the Osceola Mills United Methodist Church.
He had worked for Knowles Coal Co., Beaver Bread, American General Life Insurance Company, Summit Homes and Wolf Furniture. He was a life member of the Philipsburg BPO Elk Lodge No. 1173 and Reliance Fire Company.
He was a former member of the Osceola Mills F&AM lodge. When he resided in Osceola Mills, he was on the town council and also served as mayor. He enjoyed traveling and golf.
He was first married to the former Viola Smith, who died in 1972. He later married the former Louise C. Armstrong, who died in 2011.
He is survived by two sons, John D. Blake and his wife, Marcia of Clarks Summit and Larry Blake and his wife, Helen of Osceola Mills; a step-daughter, Cindy Crossan Seitz and her husband, Brad of York; a step-son, Mark Crossan and his wife, Donna of Dover; six grandchildren, Travis Blake (Annie), Tim Blake (Candace), Kristen Krause (Ben), Samuel Earl Blake (Sharona), Hilary Blake and Jonathan Blake; five step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and two wives, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Mearl, Earl, Thomas and William “Toad” Blake and three sisters, Harriet Fowler, Pearl Dixon and Dorothy Nixon.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, Philipsburg, with the Rev. Dr. Katie Hopper officiating. Burial will be at the Philipsburg Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
An Elks memorial service will be held at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Monday.
