CLEARFIELD – A three-year grant from the Pennsylvania Children’s Trust Fund (CTF) will allow Children’s Aid Society to expand its Triple P – Positive Parenting Program.
With this grant, the agency will provide primary and secondary child abuse and neglect prevention to families in Clearfield County by expanding the format of the current Triple P program targeting parents of children ages 0-16, according to Executive Director Bonnie Floro.
The Triple P System is one of the world’s most successful parenting programs. It was developed in the Parenting and Family Support Centre at the University of Queensland, Australia and is being implemented in 25 countries.
Delivered in several different formats, Triple P is designed to give parents the skills they need to raise confident, healthy children and teenagers and to build stronger family relationships.
It doesn’t tell people how to parent, but gives parents simple tips and strategies they can adapt to their own situations.
Starting first with standard group sessions, in subsequent years it will add group and individual services for parents with anger management issues and families in transition.
The project will receive $150,000 over a three-year period, which began Nov. 1. PA CTF’s mission is to prevent child abuse and neglect in Pennsylvania through grants to community-based service providers. Several grants were awarded throughout the state.
Following a planning period, in which staff will be trained to deliver various formats of Triple P, CAS will start receiving self-referrals from families and community agencies. All services will be at no cost to participants. The first series of group sessions are scheduled to begin early in 2017.
The grant proposal received support from the Clearfield County Collaboration and Prevention Board, a community-based partnership focused on improving positive outcomes for individuals and families.
The grant also received support from additional family-serving groups and requires both cash and in-kind match from the community.
