Bald Eagle Area Trips Lady Bison 9-3

HYDE – Bald Eagle Area (BEA) defeated the Clearfield Lady Bison Friday afternoon in Mountain League action, 9-3, in the rain at the Bison Sports Complex.

The win for the Lady Eagles was the second of the season over the Lady Bison, having beaten Clearfield in Milesburg, 11-1, back on April 20.

BEA jumped out in front with three quick runs in the top of the first inning and added two more in the second to lead 5-0 before the Lady Bison scored its first tally in the bottom half of the second inning.

Catcher Nikki Brossard started the second for Clearfield with a lead off single to right field and would later score on a throwing error by the Lady Eagles. The error was one of six on the day for Bald Eagle Area.

The Lady Bison did have the bases loaded in its half of the second with two outs, but the runner at third for Clearfield was caught off base too far and was thrown out by BEA catcher Morgan Nyman.

Another run in the fourth inning and two more in the top of the fifth stretched the Lady Eagles lead to 8-1 after five innings were in the books.

Clearfield, to their credit, did all it could to hang with BEA, scoring two runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning.

Brossard, again, started the sixth with a lead off double to right centerfield with Makayla Ross then reaching base on a fielder’s choice that saw the Lady Eagles unable to pick up an out on the play.

Lindsay Hand picked up an RBI when she also reached base on another fielder’s choice that once again BEA couldn’t pick up an out and enabled Hand to race home with the run for Clearfield.

Erica Hanes followed with a double to left centerfield that scored Ross with the final run of the game for the Lady Bison.

The Lady Eagles picked up its last run in the top of the seventh inning.

Clearfield stranded nine base runners while BEA left seven on base.

Shortstop Brooke Cline had a nice game at the plate going three for four while Brossard and Hanes each had two hits for Clearfield.

Olivia Andrews had two singles for Bald Eagle Area and Mikayla Smith scored three times.

The Lady Bison, now 5-8 on the season, travel on Monday to play Penns Valley, a team Clearfield beat on April 14, at home, 7-5.
