Kane Makes Trip Worthwhile, Dumps Golden Tide 64-49

CURWENSVILLE – The Kane Area High School boys basketball team’s long road trip to Curwensville paid off Friday night as the Wolves once again knocked off the Golden Tide, this time at Patton Hall, 64-49. .

Kane defeated the Tide earlier this year, in Kane, 67-45.

The Golden Tide and the Wolves played a very tight first quarter that saw a lead no larger than six for Kane, 12-6, at the 3:40 mark.

Curwensville did cut the Kane lead to five tallies at the end of the first, 20-15.

Senior Jake Terry had six points in the first eight minutes for the Tide while 6’ 6” junior Andrew Bucheit came off of the Kane bench to dump in eight for his squad.

The Golden Tide played its best eight minutes of the contest in the second quarter, outscoring the Wolves 13-12, to trail by just four at the break, 32-28.

And it was Terry again coming up huge for Curwensville with eight second quarter points.

On the night, Terry had 25 points, including two three-pointers, which tied him for game high honors with Bucheit, who also dropped in 25 to pace the Kane offense.

Although Kane scored 32 points in each half. Golden Tide head coach Shane Pentz thought his team changing its defense helped, saying after the game, “We didn’t defend very well in the first half tonight so we switched to a zone defense and I thought overall we played much better on the defensive end.”

Unfortunately for the Tide, Kane played its best quarter, winning the third set of eight minutes 21-13 to go up 53-41 with one frame left to finish.

Curwensville would get as close as 15 points to its northern visitors in the fourth quarter at 58-43 before losing by 15.

Pentz did find a few positives on the evening, commenting, “I do feel we were very competitive tonight. And Jake Terry was unbelievable out there. He was aggressive on offense, scoring 25, but he also made some good passes to get others involved.”

Shane Rolick added 13 points with teammate Davis Gardner helping out with 12 for Kane, now even on the year at 10-10.

The junior varsity encounter was won by the Tide, beating Kane 37-35, in the opening game of the evening. .

Curwensville (4-17) entertains rival Clearfield Monday night in both team’s final regular season appearance.

The JV game tips off at 6 pm with the varsity to immediately follow.
