DCC’s Rifle Team Competes at the Statewide Junior Olympic Rifle Championship

ANNVILLE – Six members of DuBois Central Catholic’s Rifle Team competed at the Junior Olympic Rifle Championship held Jan. 3 at the Palmyra Sportsmen’s Club in Annville, Pa.

This competition was a statewide event with the opportunity to qualify to travel to Colorado and compete for a spot on the U.S. Olympic Air Rifle Team.

The current U.S. Olympic Air Rifle Coach, Erin Gestl, was the “range officer” for this event. It was held at a location equipped with an automatic scoring system that used lasers to calculate where the shots were on the target.

The JORC match consisted of 40 off-hand shots for the girls and 60 off-hand shots for the boys.

Abi Zeitler led the team with 369 out of 400, followed by CiCi Tornatore with 357 out of 400, and Rebecca Pifer with 356 out of 400. Jake Snyder scored 537 out of 600 while Zach Logan and Alex Adamski rounded out the team with respectable scores, as well.

Zeitler’s 369 will likely place her high in the state qualifier competition. However, it will be several weeks before the posting of results from all shooters, according to DCC’s coaching staff.

The head coach is Bernie Snyder who is, assisted by Dave Sylvis, Bob Logan and Brad Pifer.
