MORRISDALE — Hoping to get their first win on the season, as well as the first victory for their new coach, the Curwensville Lady Tide took to the hardwood on Monday night. Â However, in order to do that, they wouldn’t take to the court at Patton Hall. Â Instead, they would have to do so on the road in West Branch as they would face the Lady Warriors.
On this night, the home team would be the ones who rolled the Tide.
Curwensville had trouble all night long, seemingly flat-footed on offense and were having issues with ball handling. Â West Branch would make them pay, as every member of the Lady Warriors would earn a basket, and would hold the lead for all but the first three minutes of the game, cruising to a 74-27 rout of the Lady Tide.
The Lady Warriors could do no wrong when it came to putting points on the board, as they would find creases in the zone defense, moving the ball in the paint and around to keep Curwensville guessing. Â At the same time, defensively they were causing havoc for the black-clad squad. Â When the final buzzer went off, Curwensville had committed 36 turnovers, with a majority coming in both the first and third quarter.
The bright spot for Curwensville was Hannah Dixon, who led the team in scoring with 13 points. Â Christine Limbert would lead the squad in rebounds with eight on the night.
On the opposite side of the ball, West Branch had four players make it into double digits. Â Both Leanna Peinkey and Hailey Prestash would account for 10 points each, while Jaylee Rockey and Taylor Pedmo led all scoring with 14 a piece. Â Peinkey would also lead the Lady Warriors with nine boards on the night.
Things went south quickly for Curwensville after halftime, as 13 turnovers in the third quarter led to 19 points for the home team. Â At the same time, the Lady Tide would be held to just 1-for-8 in shooting in the quarter. Â Curwensville did not have many shots at the basket, attempting only 33 shots on the night, making only nine of them. Â West Branch would attempt 72 shots, making 33 of them.
Curwensville (0-3) will try to get its first win of the year when they take to the court Friday night when they host Kane.
