Lady Tide Get Back To Winning, Defeat Glendale 6-2

FLINTON – After back-to-back losses on consecutive afternoons to Elk County Catholic, the Curwensville Area High School girls softball team traveled to Flinton to battle the Glendale Lady Vikings.

The Moshannon Valley League game went to the Lady Tide by a score of 6-2, breaking the two game slide by Curwensville.

The Lady Vikings are now 5-6 on the 2015 season.  Curwensville improved to 7-5 and 2-2 in Moshannon Valley League play.

Curwensville took a 3-0 lead after three and half innings by scoring two in the first frame and one in the top of the fourth.

The Lady Tide run in the top of the fourth came courtesy of a solo home run by leftfielder Megan McCartney.  McCartney’s blast came with two outs and cleared the left field fence.

Glendale would score lone runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to cut the Lady Tide lead to just 3-2.

However, Curwensville chalked up three tallies in the sixth inning that set the final at 6-2.

The Lady Tide offense got big games from pitcher Rylee Young with three hits and three RBI’s from first baseman Nikki Harker.  second baseman Kayley Harnett chipped in with two hits, with one being a double.

Young picked up her seventh win from the circle, scattering seven hits and striking out eight with no walks.

Mandee Glass and Anna Fowler each had two hits for Glendale. Glass smacked a double for the Lady Vikings.

The Lady Vikings will travel to Mt. Union on Friday to play in a doubleheader. Game one starts at 3 pm.

Curwensville will host Purchase Line on Monday at 4:15 pm.  The Lady Tide defeated the Lady Red Dragons this past Monday, 7-3.
