Golden Tide Find Offense, Crush Kane, 84-65

KANE – With two teams in the midst of a slumping season, something had to give for one of the boys basketball squads that played Friday night in Kane.

The Curwensville Golden Tide made the long and cold trip to meet up with the Kane Wolves, a team that defeated the Tide in December in overtime, 57-55, in Curwensville.

Curwensville came in with a four game losing streak, and having won only once in the last eight times out on the hardwood, while Kane came in losing its last ten games and 14 of its last 15.

In the end, when the smoke settled, it was Curwensville picking up the much needed victory by slamming the Wolves, 84-65.

It was by far the highest output of the season for the Golden Tide, as they scored 20 points or better in each of the last three periods to extend the losing streak for Kane to 11 straight games.

The win for Curwensville was highlighted by four players scoring in double figures as Jake Terry led the way with 20 points, followed by Trey Rauckhorst tallying 17 while Harrison Bloom and Quamone Newkirk each dumped in 14.

Kane was led in scoring by Andy Bundy with 12 tallies and Davis Gardner scoring 11 and Andrew Bucheit adding 10.

The two squads combined for 19 three-pointers, with Kane having the edge 10-9. Terry had four for Curwensville and Bundy and Kocjancic each had three for the Wolves.

Curwensville had a fine night at the free throw line going 23 of 30 that helped secure the victory.

In junior varsity action the Wolves came up with a controversial win over Curwensville, 45-44. The young Tide hit a three-point shot at the end of the fourth period to tie the game at 44-44, but were hit with a technical foul for coming on to the court to celebrate before time ran out on the clock. The Wolves converted on the technical to pick up the JV win. Quamone Newkirk paced the Golden Tide with 17 points.

The Golden Tide (6-15) close out the 2014-15 season on Monday night with a game at rival Clearfield with JV tipping off at 6 pm and the varsity to immediately follow.

The Bison won the first time the two squads met back in mid-December at Curwensville, 71-40.
