CLEARFIELD – District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. has announced the capture of a wanted fugitive.

Shaw identified the fugitive as Nicole Marie Coleman, 23, of Bigler Avenue, Clearfield.

Coleman was added to the Clearfield County Fugitive of the Week list on Monday.

On Aug. 6, 2014, Officer Levi Olson of the Lawrence Township police filed a criminal complaint against Coleman. He charged Coleman with forgery, F3; theft by unlawful taking, M2; theft by deception, M2; receiving stolen property, M2; and theft by deception, M3.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Aug. 5, 2014, police received a report about an alleged theft and a forged check.  Upon investigation it was found that Coleman had unlawfully removed a check, U.S. currency, and various pieces of jewelry from the victim’s apartment.

It was found that Coleman had forged the victim’s signature on the check and cashed it. Additionally, it was determined that Coleman had sold the victim’s jewelry in exchange for U.S. currency.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Aug. 27, 2014, at which time all charges were held for court. On Jan. 22, Coleman failed to appear for Criminal Call and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Shaw stated that an anonymous tip to the Clearfield County Crime Stoppers provided the location of Coleman. On Friday, deputies from the Clearfield County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Coleman at a residence located on North 10th Street, Philipsburg, and she was taken into custody without incident.

Coleman is currently lodged in the Clearfield County Jail. Shaw acknowledged that Coleman was located as the direct result of citizens willing to provide information to law enforcement.

Shaw thanked the Clearfield County Sheriff’s Office for its assistance with this case.
