CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County Commissioner John Sobel has announced his bid for re-election to a third-term in office. He is a resident of Lawrence Township where he resides with his daughter, Johnna, who teaches kindergarten for the Clearfield Area School District.
Sobel graduated as valedictorian from the Clearfield Area High School in 1971 and summa cum laude from Vanderbilt University in 1975. He graduated from the Dickinson School of Law of the Pennsylvania State University in 1979.
He is a partner in the local law firm of Sobel & Collins, where he has represented Burnside Borough, Chester Hill Borough, Covington Township, Knox Township, Girard Township, Graham Township, Morris Township, Mahaffey Borough, Osceola Mills Borough and Benezette Township, Elk County, during his 35-year career.
Sobel also worships at the Presbyterian Church of Clearfield, where he serves as an elder.
Sobel, who has twice refused to vote for a pay raise for himself, said, “It has been an honor to represent the citizens of Clearfield County. From being able to lower taxes 2.5 mills in 2010, to assisting in the arrival of WhiteWave Foods Corp. in the DuBois area, [and] to the upcoming construction of the new Graystone Towers Senior Housing facility in Clearfield, a lot has been accomplished in Clearfield County during my terms in office.
“I want to keep that momentum going. Therefore, I humbly ask for your support for another term.”
