DUBOIS – Chris Knarr, retired U.S. Marine, who also piloted Marine 1, and currently flies for Stat MedEvac, will be the guest speaker at the Nov. 12 meeting of the DuBois Area Historical Society.

His presentation will be at 7 p.m. at the historical society museum, 30 W. Long Ave., DuBois. The program is free and open to the public.

Knarr was raised in Troutville and graduated from DuBois Area High School in 1990. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps as a helicopter air crewman and was deployed to the Mediterranean in 1992.

Through the Marine Corps Enlisted Commissioning Education Program, Knarr enrolled at Penn State University. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering in 1998.

Now a Second Lieutenant, Knarr completed basic flight school. He deployed three times, twice to Iraq and one to the Mediterranean before being assigned to Marine 1 and Marine 2, which transport the president and vice president of the United States.

Knarr has flown Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama and Vice Presidents Dick Chaney and Joe Biden, along with other dignitaries and heads of state.

Knarr retired from the Marines in 2011. He currently lives in DuBois and works for Stat MedEvac.

In addition to talking about his experiences, Knarr’s presentation will include a video of his squadron, explaining its work and traditions, and photos from his career.

This is the last 2014 speaker program of the DuBois Area Historical Society. Programs will resume in February of 2015. Two additional fundraisers are scheduled in 2014:

  • 21-23, fundraiser at Ruby Tuesday’s Restaurant, DuBois. Get a voucher from any board member or print one from the society’s Web site.
  • 12, fundraiser at Hoss’s Steak and Sea House, DuBois, all day. Get a voucher from any board member or print one from the society’s Web site.
