GANT RELOAD: Week of Nov. 3

The weekly reload gives readers a look back upon the most noteworthy stories of their work week.  It contains the big headlines, as well as a few stories you might have missed. It might even include a story or two of the lighter side.

The reload will be posted each weekend for your perusal. For most part, the reload will be filled with local headlines, but every now and again, a state, world or national story will make the list.

Man Pleads Guilty in Child Pornography Case

CLEARFIELD – A man charged with possessing child pornography has pleaded guilty in Clearfield County Court.

Allen James Pierce, 35, an inmate of the Indiana County Jail, was sentenced to three to seven years in state prison. He was ordered to complete the Project Point of Light program. He is not allowed to have contact with anyone under 18 years of age.

Madera Man Gets State Prison in Sexual Assault Case

CLEARFIELD – A Madera man will spend up to 10 years in state prison for having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl.

Jared John Wilks, 22, 543 Blackburn Rd., Madera, an inmate of the jail, pleaded guilty to two counts each of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and statutory sexual assault.

Fire Destroys Mack Truck at Mersen in St. Marys

ST. MARYS – A fire destroyed a Mack truck on Monday at Mersen, located on Trout Run Road, in St. Marys, reported the state police at Ridgway.

The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal and the Crystal Fire Department investigated the fire. The fire destroyed a Mack truck that was connected to a box trailer and parked at the loading dock at Mersen, state police said.

Winter Work Anticipated for Water, Sewer Interconnect

DUBOIS – Perry Bowser, engineer, reported to the Sandy Township Supervisors last night that there is progress on the planned water and sewer interconnect between Sandspur and Wayne roads.

Township Manager Dave Monella added that “…as soon as we get the approval of the land owner we’re anticipating getting the water and sewer guys out there to get started.”  He further stated that the township’s intention to work through the winter as weather permits.

Judge Denies Motion to Lessen Sentence in Gun Shop Burglaries Case

CLEARFIELD – A motion to lessen the sentence for a DuBois man who committed three gun shop burglaries has been denied by a Clearfield County Judge.

Brett Andrew Moore, 25, pleaded guilty to burglary and related theft charges in September and was sentenced by Judge Fredric J. Ammerman to a total of 10 to 20 years in state prison. Moore had broken into Bob’s Army Navy Store in Clearfield twice and the L.B. Toney’s Alamo Gun Shop in DuBois.

WJAC-TV: Kenjora Sentenced for Attempted Murder

CLEARFIELD – A 71-year-old Osceola Mills woman who was convicted of criminal attempt/murder of the first degree for shooting her home care nurse in the head was sentenced Tuesday in Clearfield County Court.

Marlene Kenjora, 71, of Osceola Mills will serve a minimum of 12 years to a maximum of 24 years in state prison for shooting her home care nurse in the head on Dec. 6, 2012, according to news partner WJAC-TV.

YORK, Pa. (AP) — Governor-elect Tom Wolf says he’s ready to roll up his sleeves and get to work as Pennsylvania’s new chief executive.

Wolf posted the remarks online Tuesday before taking the stage at his election night rally.

He says the state needs to come together now “to fund a world-class public education system, create family-sustaining jobs … build safe communities, and keep Pennsylvania beautiful.”

WJAC-TV: Corbett Concedes PA Governor Race

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Gov. Tom Corbett said he called Democratic Gov.-elect Tom Wolf to concede defeat and congratulated him on a well-fought fight for Pennsylvania’s highest office.

CLEARFIELD – On Monday, the Zen Garden Salt Spa and Salon held its grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony in downtown Clearfield.

The Zen Garden Salt Spa is locally owned and operated by Terry and Deborah Jordan. It will offer state-of-the-art whole body wellness therapy beds, massages, pedicures, manicures and more.

Main Street Manager Loretta Wagner stated, “This is very exciting for Clearfield. Not only is the Zen Garden Salt Spa a locally owned business, but this also serves as an opportunity for the community to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

State Police Searching for Retail Theft Suspect

FOX TOWNSHIP – State police at Ridgway are seeking information about a male who allegedly stole in excess of $6,000 worth of merchandise from the St. Marys Wal-Mart store in Fox Township.

According to the report, an unknown male entered the Wal-Mart store between 2:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. Wednesday. He allegedly filled one cart with general merchandise and another with expensive electronics.

Clearfield Man Accused of Stealing Handguns Waives Hearing

CLEARFIELD – A 20-year-old Clearfield man accused of stealing two handguns from a vehicle in April waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Wednesday during Centralized Court at the Clearfield County Jail.

Joseph James Gavlock III, 20, of Clearfield has been charged with theft by unlawful taking; receiving stolen property; theft from a motor vehicle; firearm ownership/duty of other persons; and possession of a firearm prohibited.

Burglary Suspect Waives Hearing

CLEARFIELD – A 26-year-old Mahaffey man allegedly involved in a Lawrence Township burglary incident waived his right to a preliminary hearing during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.

Eric Wesley Lamoreau, 26, of Mahaffey has been charged with criminal trespass; conspiracy/theft by unlawful taking; theft by unlawful taking; conspiracy/burglary; burglary; and conspiracy/criminal trespass.

Acting Secretary of Ed. Announces Results of 2013-14 School Performance Profile

HARRISBURG – Acting Secretary of Education Carolyn Dumaresq has announced the results of the 2013-14 School Performance Profile that show 2,134 of 2,947, or 72 percent, public school buildings earning a 70 or higher.

Compared to the 2012-13 profile, the percentage of schools with a 70 or higher has held steady at 72 percent.
