Obituary Notice: Donald Lee Powell

Donald Lee Powell, 79, of Clearfield died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.

He was born Oct. 4, 1934, the son of Charles S. Powell and Nina (Moyer) Wheeler. He worked for Sylvania, Sapp Bros., and the Clearfield YMCA.

He was a lifetime member of the Hyde Fire Company and the Second Ward of the Clearfield Fire Department. He was Methodist by faith.

He’s survived by his wife, Betty L. (Kolbe) Powell of Clearfield and three children, Christopher L. Powell and his wife, Dawn J. and Michael A. Powell, both of Clearfield, and Cindy English and her husband, Thomas of Lock Haven.

He’s survived by seven grandchildren, Nicole Powell, Kody Powell, Melissa Powell, Tressa Gray, Keirsten Gray, Gregory English and Celeste English and one great-granddaughter, Eva Dawn McBride.

Mr. Powell is also survived by a brother, Charles E. “Ed” Powell and his wife, Bonnie of Clearfield; a sister, Margaret Coder of Clearfield; six half-brothers and sisters, Mary Alice Bannister of Rising Sun, Md., Dathan Swanson of DuBois, Sam Powell and his companion, Helen of Clearfield, Ronnie Lee Powell and Creata Bloom, both of Curwensville, and Jean Bean and her husband, Wes of Mahaffey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Rebecca Walk and a niece, Charlene Wisor.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc., Clearfield. Burial will be in Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Clearfield American Legion Post No. 6 and the VFW Post No. 1785 Honor Guards.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until the hour of the services Monday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to ASERA CARE Hospice, 231 Allegheny Blvd., Suite B, Brookville, PA 15825 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
