Golden Tide Stay Perfect, Defeat Coudersport 35-6

COUDERSPORT- The Curwensville Golden Tide made it three straight wins on the gridiron Friday night, defeating the Falcons of Coudersport, 35-6.

It wasn’t a very easy win even though the score would indicate otherwise.

The Falcons came in with an 0-2 record and hadn’t scored a point on the 2014 campaign while giving up 80 in the first two contests.

After the first eight minutes neither squad found the end zone and it was freshman Nick Stewart giving the Tide a 7-0 lead at the half with a 21 yard run followed by Heather Thorp’s extra point.

Curwensville stretched its lead to 21-0 after three quarters with a five yard run by Hunter Johnson and a three yard run by Stewart.  Thorp followed each touchdown with PAT’s.

Stewart’s touchdown was set up by a blocked punt by junior Seth Sloppy that gave the Tide the ball at the Coudy three yard line.

Shae Bloom gave Curwensville a four touchdown margin with a seven yard journey to the end zone at the 7:01 mark of the fourth quarter. With another Thorp PAT it was 28-0 in favor of the Golden Tide.

Coudersport would score their first touchdown of the year on a 75 yard pass from freshman quarterback Jared Green to Nevada Waterman with 6:40 left in the contest.  The two point conversion attempt failed.

Curwensville answered 17 seconds later with a 66 yard TD toss of it’s own from Travis Lansberry to Maverick Reed. Thorp finished her perfect night of PAT’s (5 for 5) to set the final at 35-6.

The Tide’s win is the third straight over the Falcons, dating back to the 2012 season. The Curwensville victory still has the Falcons up 13-6 in games played since the 1999 season.

Curwensville returns home next Friday to play Cameron County in the first of four consecutive home games.  Cameron County, 0-3, lost to Brockway Friday night, 35-7. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 pm at Riverside Stadium.
