Lady Bison Head Coach John Jacob commented on his girl’s team, “Paige ran away from the field from the start, taking a commanding lead and coming away with the win. Claire Mikesell, Kristi Fox and Nikol Chew followed; passing Tyrone’s number one runner for a sweep of the first four positions. The girls may not have improved their times from the Big Valley Invitational but they were able to come away with the team win.”
He also noted the total team effort of the boys, “On the boys side Alex Coval took the lead from the start but Adam Zook from Tyrone was able to hang with him through the first half of the race. Alex kept the pressure on throughout the race and was able to build a substantial lead for his first victory. It was a good experience for him to go out and not worry about pace and just see if he could mentally come away with the victory. Josiah McClarren was next across the line for the Bison, after the top two Tyrone runners crossed, followed by a sea of red that sealed the victory for the team. The surprises of the day were freshmen Quinten Edwards and Harrison McMillen. Both runners were able to pass some very experienced runners with a mile to go and fend off a late charge. It was great to see both young runners battle it out all the way to the end. It is the competition within the team that is helping to make us stronger every time we race. Assistant Coach Todd Winters and I hope the core group of runners can continue to improve every race. It is an aspect of the team that we have not seen from our first to our last runners in several years.”
The squads head to the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational at Penn State on Saturday.
