CLEARFIELD – The Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library will welcome local author, Judy Davis, at 6:30 p.m. June 24 for a book signing and discussion of her latest novel, “Under Starry Skies.”

According to the author’s Web site, Davis dreamed of becoming a writer. She previously worked as a copy and continuity writer for radio and television, and has written for both industry and education. Her short stories have appeared in magazines, anthologies and have received numerous awards.

“Under Starry Skies” features the Ashmore family and other characters from her previously published novel, “Red Fox Woman,” which was a finalist in the International Book Awards and USA Book News Best Book Awards. Davis’ newest book is a mystery, romance and a western with lots of humor.

“Under Starry Skies” tells the story of Maria O’Donnell, hired as the town’s school teacher, and her sister, Abigail, as they arrive in the Colorado Territory in 1875 and discover their uncle has been murdered.

Rancher Tye Ashmore quickly falls in love with the quiet and beautiful Maria. Her reluctance to accept his marriage proposal only makes him more determined to make her part of his life.

When their lives are threatened, Tye believes he is the target of an unknown enemy. Not until Maria receives written threats urging her to leave does she realize she may be the target instead of the handsome rancher.

With the help of Tye, Abigail and an Indian called Two Bears, Maria works to uncover her uncle’s killer and put aside her fears. But will she discover happiness and true love under Colorado’s starry skies?

All those in attendance will have a chance to win either a “Summer Fun Basket” or a $25 Visa gift card sponsored by the author.  Davis will have copies of the book for sale following the event, and partial proceeds from the book sale will benefit the Shaw Public Library. Light refreshments will also be available.

Please contact Shaw Public Library at 814-765-3271 for additional information. The library is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Fridays from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m.
