Clarence’s Big Sixth Inning Sinks Clearfield Legion 17-10

CLARENCE — Immediately after Clearfield broke up a 6-6 tie with four runs in the top of the sixth inning, Clarence responded with an 11-run outburst for a 17-10 win in Central Penn American Legion League baseball action Thursday evening.

Jeff Bennett’s three-run double and Tyler Dyke’s two-run single highlighted the Mounties’ rally that included seven hits and some help from three Chief pitchers, who issued five walks and hit three batters.

Clearfield (1-2) packed 10 of its 15 hits into a pair of big innings, scoring six runs in the fourth to take a 6-4 lead and the four in the sixth to regain the upper hand.

Cole Kephart drove in three runs with a pair of singles and Thomas Summers added a two-run double.

Curt Collins led the Chiefs’ offense with a double and two singles.

Kephart, Sawyer Rowles, Zach Timchak and Ty Bender chipped in two hits apiece and Logan Lykens had a two-bagger.

Rowles, the second of four Chief hurlers, was tagged with the loss.

Clearfield’s next game is at Philipsburg Monday.
