Lady Bison Shut Out, 10-0, in Opener

MARTINSBURG — Lexi Ritchey pitched a three-hit shutout and the veteran Central High School softball team scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning for a 10-0 Mercy Rule win over visiting Clearfield in the season opener for both teams Monday afternoon.

The Mountain League game was played in sub-freezing temperatures, but Marissa Snyder, Lauren Aiello and Darby Boyles swung hot bats for the Lady Dragons with two hits apiece. Snyder and Aiello, who drove in two runs, socked doubles.

Ritchey, one of only two newcomers to a lineup that was 15-5 last season, struck out two and walked one.

Rachel Hoffman was tagged with the loss, allowing nine hits and seven earned runs. The Lady Bison senior fanned seven Lady Dragons but walked eight.

Clearfield is scheduled to travel to Mill Hall Tuesday for a non-league game against Central Mountain.
