15 Players named to District 9 Honor Roll

CLARION – In a first, the entire Clarion defense is the Explore Your Town District 9 Player of the Week for Week Nine of the 2013 season.

The Bobcats defense has, too put it mildly, been an immoveable object for almost the entire year recording seven shutouts in nine games including in each of the last six weeks while allowing a total of 26 points all season.

In a 55-0 win over A-C Valley Friday night, the defense, which was led by 16 tackles including a ½ sacks from Destin Strauser, 13 tackles from Tyler Allen and 10 from Damien Slike, who also recovered a fumble, forced three A-C Valley turnovers and held the Falcons to 123 total yards of offense. The 48 shutout minutes ran Clarion’s shutout streak to 288 minutes and 15 seconds, while the seven shutouts this year are a school record and the second most in District 9 during the District 9 playoff-era (1987-present).

Fifteen players are also being honored this week on the Explore Your Town Honor Roll.

The Explore Your Town Player of the Week and the Honor Roll are chosen by’s selection committee composing of the editors and other media members. The awards are not intended to be a solely statistics driven award and take in many factors including statistics, opponents, importance of the game, clutch performance, etc.

The awards, which are given from Week One through Week 10, are the only weekly awards given out in District 9 football that represent the district as a whole.


Clarion Defense – Recorded is sixth consecutive shutout and its school-record seventh shutout of the season while running its scoreless streak to 288 minutes, 15 seconds while holding A-C Valley to 123 yards of offense.
