State Police Investigate DUI Accident

PIKE TOWNSHIP – The Clearfield-based state police investigated an alcohol-related accident Oct. 23 on state Route 969 west of Addleman Lane in Pike Township.

Christopher J. Burkett, 29, of Punxsutawney was traveling westbound on SR 969 when he lost control of his vehicle while attempting to negotiate a slight, left-hand curve in the roadway. His vehicle traveled off the roadway and struck the guiderail.

After impact, Burkett’s vehicle went airborne and continued traveling approximately 20 feet before striking an embankment. His vehicle came to a final rest on its driver’s side, facing southwest with its undercarriage oriented toward the roadway.

Burkett wasn’t injured as a result of the accident. However, further investigation revealed he was highly intoxicated, and he was arrested at the scene for driving under the influence and related charges. Charges were filed through the district court.
