Fire Engulfs Senior Living Facility

CLEARFIELD – A fire engulfed Colonial Courtyard, an assisted living facility for seniors, shortly before 7:30 p.m. tonight. The facility is located at 1300 Leonard St. in Lawrence Township, according to a Clearfield County Emergency Alert.

Tammy Miller, a witness at the scene, took this photo within the last hour. She was teaching an adult education class nearby. Her students assisted with evacuating the residents from the burning facility.

Update at 9:34 p.m.:

The American Red Cross has responded and provided water to approximately 200 emergency responders.

Update at 10:46 p.m.:

According to the state’s Department of Public Welfare, Colonial Courtyard could care for up to 72 individuals at one time. It was caring for 57 individuals at the time of its last inspection by the DPW, which was in March of this year.
