The Last Word
Dustin: “Lots of really good bowl games to choose for this week, probably my favorite football time of year minus the Super Bowl. I’m liking the South Carolina-Michigan matchup, but I think that Denard Robinson is too difficult to handle for the Gamecock defense. The Rose Bowl has some drama with Wisconsin’s coach leaving. Oregon…they’ll just keep doing what they do. In the NFL, since we have all four NFC east teams to choose from, I think you’ll see Eli put the final nail in the coffin for Andy Reid, who seriously needed to be out of Philly a long time ago, and then the big one in Washington. I can’t pick the Cowboys, they are so up-n-down all year, but there is no question the most dynamic player this season has been RGIII. I think he caps it off by taking the division, punching the playoff ticket for the Redskins.”
Dave: “I agree with Chris that many of the bowl games lack any real drama – but I disagree about the Big Ten, I think only Michigan will shine. The bowl I’m most interested in is Chick-Fil-A bowl, to see if Clemson’s high-powered offense can score on that tough LSU defense. The real drama is in the NFL, particularly the Redskins-Cowboys play-in game. Both teams have been red-hot, and RGIII will have to continue to play mistake-free football to win – but the Cowboys are guilty until proven innocent when it comes to winning big games like this.”
Chris: “One of the worst bowl lineups in recent memory. It says here that the Big Ten will fare better than expected. I really like the Wolverines to pull off the upset. On the pro side, it’s hard to have much interest in the NFL without the Steelers. Although the Cowboys have been up and down, I like them to surprise Washington and sneak into the postseason.”
Rusty: “Should be some good match-ups this week, but sometimes similar records don’t mean good games in the bowls. I think Oregon State, LSU, Georgia and Florida State will win easily. Michigan will represent the Big 10 well. In the pros, I see the Vikings needing the win more while the Packers may not play the starters the whole game. The Redskins squeak by the Cowboys at home to hold the division title which will let the Giants leap over the boys in the standings.”
Jay: “Really enjoy the bowl games every year! Picking Air Force and hoping the Herrington kid from Clearfield kicks the game-winner to cap his career. Mostly sticking with the SEC and PAC 10 or 12 or whatever it is now in the rest of the bowl games. I think the Pack may lay down a bit, which will be enough for the Vikes to squeak by. RGIII is a special player and I think he’ll come up big again in the spotlight of the Sunday Night Lights.”
